What is Powell PTA?

The Parent Teacher Association at Powell offers all parents and caregivers the opportunity to be engaged in their child’s potential. Being a member of PTA means that you are part of a powerful association and action plan that is focused on programs and initiatives that strengthen your child’s education.

  • We strive to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children.

  • Commitment: We are dedicated to promoting children’s health, well-being, and educational success through strong parent, family, and community involvement.

Accountability: We acknowledge our obligations. We deliver on our promises.

Respect: We value our colleagues and ourselves. We expect the same high quality of effort and thought from ourselves as we do from others.

Inclusivity: We invite the stranger and welcome the newcomer. We value and seek input from as wide a spectrum of viewpoints and experiences as possible.

Integrity: We act consistently with our beliefs. When we err, we acknowledge the mistake and seek to make amends.

  • Collaboration—We work in partnership with a wide array of individuals and organizations to accomplish our agreed-upon goals.

  • Eve Prince is a North Carolina native and mother of 3 boys; a freshman at Enloe, first grader, and a third grader. This is her families 10th year at Powell. As a Powell grad herself, serving on the Board means a lot to Eve. Over the years, she has served as Secretary, Vice President, and President and has also served on our Health and Wellness committee, Hospitality committee, donations/grants, and currently heads our Powell Pawlooza spring carnival. She works in management in hospitality and enjoys spending time with family and friends, a good laugh, and new adventures. As the current PTA President, her primary goal for the PTA this year is to encourage and welcome new members to our existing board.

Laura Kelly

Vice President

  • Laura Kelly was born in Miami, FL, but moved to NC in middle school and considers NC home. She met her husband in high school and they have two daughters, a kindergartener, and a second grader. She works at a local hospital and enjoys gardening in her free time. She is looking forward to making a positive impact and helping our school thrive as VP. Laura believes we all have the ability to help our amazing school despite our busy and hectic schedules. If we all just do one thing, we can make a great impact.

Heather Garner

Treasurer

  • Heather Garner is an avid NC State Wolfpack fan who grew up in Greensboro, NC. She and her husband met while at State and have called East Raleigh their home for 18 years. They have three children, a 10th grader at Enloe, a 8th grader at Ligon, and a 4th grader at Powell. This is her family’s eleventh year at Powell. Heather has served on the Powell PTA board for nine years, including four terms as president 3 terms as treasurer, and 1 term as a member at large. She is now serving her fourth term as treasurer. Heather enjoys working with the teachers and staff at Powell so much that she became a Wake County substitute teacher. She believes that public education is important and that the PTA should support all students at Powell.

Meridith Rodgman

Secretary

  • Meridith Rodgman is a proud North Carolina native who graduated from NC State University with a degree in Biology and a Minor in Chemistry—because she loves all things science! Meridith also has a creative side and decided to dive into the world of pixels and palettes, snagging a degree in Graphic and Web Design.

Meridith’s love story began in high school, where she met her husband, and after 21 years of marriage, they’re still a great team! They’re the proud parents of a delightful daughter who’s currently in 3rd grade at Powell.

This is Meridith’s inaugural year on the PTA Board, and she’s ready to roll up her sleeves after serving on the Hospitality Committee, Powell Pawlooza Committee, and the Yearbook Committee.

When she’s not juggling school activities, Meridith loves spending time with family and friends. You can often find her enjoying a nice iced coffee while dreaming about her next travel destination. She has a soft spot for conservation, the outdoors, wildlife, art, and a serious passion for chocolate.

Her top priority for the PTA? To sprinkle a little fairy dust of support over everyone and inspire others to jump on the community bandwagon. After all, as Meridith believes, Teamwork makes the dream work—and a little kindness never hurts!

  • This is Kim’s first year on the PTA Board. She is excited to make a difference at the school for both kids and staff. Kim hopes to bring her knack for organization and communication skills to help the board flourish. Understanding that the school needs our support in a big way Kim hopes to bring in more volunteers and create community around our PTA. Kim also serves as our Art Mob chair - leading our “chalk the walk” events to bring joy and information to our school sidewalks. Kim loves pretty much anything outdoors, especially gardening, she also loves creating art and spending time with her NC family!
